How Do You Choose an E-Bike as a Halloween Gift?

Buy an e-bike for someone who's a Halloween fanatic? We'd go for a Halloween gift they'd actually want to ride once the pumpkins have gone down. Then see which of the current offers apply to that bike. Their normal riding habits and the space they've got at home are more important than the free accessory that's always on the sale banner.

You can still make the reveal fun. A full-size electric bike is a big purchase to get wrong, so involve the recipient in the process before you commit to a model. If you're shopping in the run-up to Oct 31st, a Halloween card promising a bike-shopping afternoon together is probably better than a reveal date, which you can't control.

Ask where they'd actually go on it next week. Perhaps they want to stop driving to the coffee shop, take a relaxed ride by the water, or carry a few groceries home. Start there. Treat the accessory as something to check off your shopping list after you've chosen the bike. If the recipient needs a bag and the eligible package includes one, you may avoid buying a duplicate. But a free phone mount isn't a reason to choose a cruiser when they need a folding bike.

The two-bike offer only really works if you're after two bikes. Don't take a one-bike budget and stretch it to buy a second bike just to qualify. Don't assume that the sale price, the discount code and the two bike offer all stack up either; you need to check exactly what the eligible models are, what accessories are included and what the final total is before you order.

If the promotion changes before you're ready, then just keep your shortlist. You can compare the new total without having to go through the whole gift decision again.

Give Your Gift Budget Some Breathing Room

Set a spending limit on the whole gift, not just the bike. Allow for a helmet (a necessity, really) and any help they may need with assembly. If they're going to be parking outside shops, then discuss how they're going to lock the bike and where they're going to be keeping it overnight.

You don't have to buy every accessory now. A new rider may not know whether they want a handlebar bag or a rear bag until they've made a few trips. A helmet also needs their input; choosing one by color alone can leave you with something they won't wear.
